Overview.
Our organisation will seek to prepare several hundred senior and committed individuals, over the next three years, to reform and run the British state properly.
The Centre is founded on the belief that the state of the country is – and will be at the next election – so dire that competent, senior, experienced people from outside Westminster and Whitehall will be prepared to put themselves forward for a role in government if they believe they can be effective. For them to succeed, we believe radical reform of the machinery of state is essential.
We are prepared to work with anyone who is considering the selfless commitment of putting aside a successful career and bringing their energy and experience into government for the good of the nation, and who is aligned with our mission.
We will identify and work with:
- Potential members of the House of Lords who are prepared to take reforming legislation through at scale and at pace, and who may aspire to Cabinet rank
- MPs and potential MPs who aspire to Cabinet rank
- Cohorts of potential senior civil servants (Permanent Secretaries and Directors General)
- Future leaders of QUANGOs (both Chief Executives and Chairs)
- Non-Executive Directors of Government departments and QUANGOs
- Senior special advisors
What we will do.
The problems Britain faces today exceed anything experienced in our lifetimes. The existing state has grown too big, intrusive and incompetent.
To fix things, we need the concerted efforts of high-calibre individuals, including – crucially – from the wealth of talent in the private sector.
These individuals will need a grounding in the ways of government and the peculiarities of Whitehall. We will therefore prepare these individuals to succeed, exposing them to the intricacies of how legislation is drafted, how it is implemented and, most importantly, how it should be executed for the benefit of British citizens.
We will show individuals how to strip away the barnacles of waste and pointless bureaucracy that are impoverishing and demoralising the country. We will also explain how the current state of the public finances is at a critical point.
To equip individuals comprehensively, we will familiarise ourselves with the plans of all the main political parties for reform of the machinery of the state, as well as developing our own such plans. We are in close contact already with parties who have expressed interest and alignment with our vision.
Who we are.
Lord Nash and Lord Agnew are co-chairs of the Centre and the Chief Executive is Ameer Kotecha.
With a combined 30 years’ experience of working in the heart of government (and a further 80 + years in commerce), they will help show candidates how to effectively navigate and radically change the Byzantine, inefficient and illogical world of the British state.
