Botley Road in Oxford has reopened after being closed for three and a half years as a part of a £237m construction project to upgrade Oxford railway station. The project included building a new railway bridge and redesigning the road layout.

It was ultimately beset by huge delays and spiralling costs, which rose from £161m to £237.4m, despite the project being scaled back – resulting in work on the new platform and western entrance to the station not even starting yet.

Unbelievably, the railway bridge over the two-lane road cost nearly £90m more than the London Eye and took more than twice as long to complete.

Our CEO Ameer Kotecha is quoted in the article “We desperately need people in government and senior positions within the Civil Service who have actually built things, brought in from the private sector, allowed to pick their own teams, and held to the same timelines and budgets they’d face outside the public sector. Until this happens, we will sadly just continue to see more of the same.”
